Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger campaigned in San Jose Monday morning in a final effort to convince voters to support Proposition 11, the initiative that would strip lawmakers of the ability to draw their own district lines.
Joined by Democratic state Controller Steve Westly and Leon Panetta, former chief of staff to President Bill Clinton, he argued that its passage would make the state Legislature more effective.
"California is facing some serious challenges and we need a Legislature that will work together, across party lines to come together to find solutions to meet those challenges," Schwarzenegger said in a statement. "I ask all Californians to vote Yes on Prop. 11 tomorrow when they go to the polls and make a real change to the system itself so that it better serves the people, not the politicians."
The No on 11 campaign continued to run television ads in the Los Angeles and San Francisco markets, emphasizing the complexity of the proposed redistricting system and urging voters to maintain the status quo.
