Census workers still collecting data

There are still U.S. Census Bureau workers out there, the government person-counting agency reminds, so don't be surprised if you are contacted for a follow-up question.
That was the case Monday in Stoughton, where a resident was worried that a printed note left on his door from a purported census worker was connected with a scam. It was not, as the note gave the census worker's name and phone number and reason for the call, which was quality control.
The Census has several phases of data collection going, and at the moment the focus is on quality assurance operations, said Jim Accurso, of the Census' Chicago Region Office. The program continues through Sept. 3. Another focus, that goes until Wednesday, is on vacancy confirmations.
All census workers carry official government badges marked with just their name; they may also have a "U.S. Census Bureau" bag. The census taker will never ask to enter your home.
